Migration·Asked Jun 24, 2026

How long does a Shopify migration actually take?

I keep seeing everything from a weekend to three months. What's realistic for a mid-size store?

Apparel brand

Answer

For a typical mid-size catalog (a few hundred to a couple thousand SKUs) a clean migration runs about 7–10 days end to end: audit and export, schema mapping plus the 301 redirect sheet, the data import, theme rebuild, then the DNS cutover and monitoring. The build runs in parallel with your live store so there's no shop-down period.

What stretches it: very large catalogs, complex variant or B2B pricing, heavy app-dependent data (subscriptions, loyalty, reviews), or multi-currency/multi-language. None of those are blockers — they just add days, which a good quote spells out up front.
