Custom theme vs a premium theme from the Shopify Theme Store — which should I pick?
A premium theme is $300, a custom one is thousands. When is the custom build actually worth it?

Start with a premium theme if your catalog is straightforward and your brand can live within a well-known layout — it's faster and cheaper to launch, and modern themes like Dawn are genuinely good.
Go custom when one of these is true: your brand needs a look the templates can't deliver, you have unusual merchandising (configurators, bundles, B2B pricing, complex variants), or speed and conversion are make-or-break and you want every kilobyte controlled. A good middle path many merchants miss: launch on a styled premium theme now, then commission a custom build once you have revenue and real data on what converts.
