What's the best way to add subscriptions to my Shopify store?

For most stores, start with a subscriptions app built on Shopify's native subscription APIs — Shopify Subscriptions (free, basic) or a mature app like Recharge or Skio when you need dunning, customer portals, and analytics. Native-API apps keep checkout on Shopify and play nicely with the rest of your stack.

Go custom only if you have unusual logic an app can't model (complex bundling, build-a-box, prepaid plans with odd rules). Also plan the operational side early — failed-payment recovery, the customer self-serve portal, and how subscriptions interact with discounts matter more than the install itself.
